A small-sized campsite by cherry trees along a brook

located in the area in 10 minutes driving distance to the KUMANO TAISHA shrine.
It’s an outdoor field located in a world heritage site.

OTONASHI NO SATO is an outdoor field close to the KUMANO KODO ancient roads that are designated as a world heritage site. Our site is located in 10 minutes driving distance to the KUMANO TAISHA shrine. The facilities we hold are not so large, not so new, or not perfect either, so, we are daily making every effort to make the conditions of our facilities improved in order to satisfy as many visitors that visit here as we can.

We welcome visitors with their family members,
those who visit by motorcycle,
those with pets and even those who enjoy a barbecue day trip.

There are 3 blocks in the auto-campsite, where cars and motorbikes can be pulled in,
7 blocks in the compartted campsite,
and 30 blocks in the free drop-in campsite where anyone can use freely (total: about 40 camping blocks).
You can enjoy a relaxing outdoor life. We also welcome people who visit here by motorcycle.

Free sites do not allow parking of vehicles. If you wish to bring in a car, please use a separate sectioned site or auto campsite.

The site where motorbikes can be ridden into may be used without any extra charge. When you use this site, a foldable bike-stand can be used for no extra charge.

All the above stated charges for use of the camping site include the following items,

In order to use the comparted campsite, you need to pay the accommodation fee separately in addition to the following usage fees.

Depending on the vehicle type, you may not be able to use the plot sites.
The campsite ‘Otonashi no Sato’ has old cherry trees with branches extending towards the river,and there is a risk of branches hitting and damaging your vehicle.

If you are coming with a vehicle that exceeds a height of approximately 3.2m,please use the Auto Site.

To use the Auto Site, the following 'Usage Fee + Accommodation Fee' is required.

All the above stated usage charges include the following items.

・Hot spring charge during your stay including bathing tax (it’s charged on all guests older than junior high-school students)
・Hot Spring Tax (Including a 150 yen hot spring tax for junior high school students and older)
・Fee to use the drop-in camping site. (Each group can erect a single tent/tarp on the site).
・Facility cleaning cost (150 yen per visitor with a car / 100 yen per other).
・Parking fee.

Camping Car

Camper van users are requested to utilize the campsite facilities. Due to concerns regarding nighttime noise disturbances and safety and hygiene management, we do not permit overnight parking in our parking lot.

Cancellation Policy, Rules & Pet Guidelines

 

Campground Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Deadline: Please contact us by 12:00 PM, 3 days before your stay.

Cancellation Fees:

  • 3 days before cancellation: 20%
  • 2 days before cancellation: 30%
  • 1 day before cancellation: 50%
  • Same day or no-show cancellation: 100%

Cancellation Policy Revision (Effective from September 1, 2025)

*Please Note: For reservations made through online booking platforms, the cancellation policy based on each platform’s terms and conditions will apply.

Accommodation Exception Policy

※ No cancellation fees apply in the following cases:

  • Weather-related closures: When we temporarily close our facilities due to severe weather conditions (heavy rain warnings, storm warnings, etc.) or natural disasters
  • Typhoon warnings: When the Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts that our campground will be within a typhoon’s storm warning area
  • Weather warnings on your stay date: When weather warnings are issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency for the relevant area on your accommodation day
  • Extended weather warnings: When weather warnings are issued before your stay date and conditions are not expected to improve by your accommodation day
  • COVID-19 restrictions: When local authorities request business suspension due to COVID-19 or similar infectious disease outbreaks

※ Weather-related accommodation unavailability will be determined based on information from the Japan Meteorological Agency and related organizations, and announcements will be made on our official website accordingly.

Please note that if you cancel for personal reasons before our “Weather-related Accommodation Unavailability Notice” is posted, our standard cancellation policy will apply.

BBQ Plan Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Deadline: 12:00 PM, 2 days before

(As BBQ meals and beer server rentals are provided at near-cost prices requiring special procurement, there are no exceptions to this cancellation policy. Please notify us of any cancellations by phone by 12:00 PM, 2 days before your reservation.)

  • Important: For same-day cancellations or unreachable customers, we may charge actual costs including billing expenses, and may decline future reservations. Thank you for your understanding.

Prohibited Activities

  • Damaging buildings, facilities, equipment, or amenities
  • Cigarette littering (please use portable ashtrays)
  • Cutting trees or collecting plants in our area and surrounding properties
  • Open fires or charcoal grilling without proper equipment (direct ground fires prohibited)
  • Use of generators (except silent lithium battery-powered types)
  • Karaoke or loud radio/music
  • Use of floodlights or other strong lighting equipment
  • After 9:00 PM: campfires, fireworks, barbecues, or other activities that may disturb other guests
  • Fireworks that make noise, including aerial fireworks and firecrackers (quiet handheld sparklers are permitted)
  • After 8:00 PM: idling vehicles in the campground, parking areas, or auto sites
  • Driving vehicles into designated tent areas within the free camping sites

Important Guidelines

  • Liability: Management assumes no responsibility for troubles, accidents, or theft within the facility. Please keep valuables with you at all times.
  • Pets: Keep pets under proper control to avoid disturbing others, and always keep them leashed.
  • Disputes: Management will not intervene in conflicts between guests.
  • Permits: Display camping permits and parking passes visibly on your windshield or dashboard.
  • Noise: Keep radio and music volumes low to avoid disturbing other guests.
  • Fire Safety: Handle fire with extreme caution. Always extinguish charcoal and campfires completely with water before sleeping or leaving your site.
  • Wildlife: Crows, pigeons, and other birds may visit the campground. Do not leave food outside when away from your site or sleeping.
  • Package Delivery: If you plan to have packages delivered, please notify us of the delivery date, time, and number of packages by the day before. We cannot accept deliveries on our regular holidays (Thursdays). Management assumes no responsibility for lost or damaged packages.

Pet Accommodation Guidelines

At Otonashi-no-Sato, we welcome pets at no additional charge. However, we have established field rules to ensure all guests can enjoy their stay comfortably. Pet owners must follow these guidelines, and failure to comply may result in denied entry or removal from the premises.

Required Pet Guidelines:

• Pets must be well-trained and well-behaved (This means no frequent threatening behavior, excessive barking, or biting toward other guests or their pets)

• Pets must be leashed at all times on the premises (Please be considerate as young children may approach unexpectedly)

• Pet waste cleanup is the owner’s responsibility

• Do not leave pets unattended when going out for shopping, etc. (Leaving pets alone in unfamiliar places causes significant stress and is not permitted from an animal welfare perspective)

• Pets are strictly prohibited in the reception/management building and hot spring center, except for service dogs (The hot spring center “Otonashi-no-Sato” also serves as a local public bathhouse, so please understand this policy for hygiene management reasons)

• Pets must be kept in cages inside cottage buildings and cannot roam freely (This policy helps reduce pet stress in unfamiliar environments, prevents property damage, and considers guests with animal allergies)

Pet Cage Requirements:

※ Pet cages must meet the following conditions ①②:

Must be fully enclosed (floor and 4 sides) with pet sheets, ensuring pets can relieve themselves insideMust be adequately sized to avoid excessive confinement from an animal welfare perspective

  • Both fence-type and box-type cages are acceptable. For fence-type cages, floor covering is mandatory.
  • Please bring your pet’s usual cage when possible to minimize stress

• For multiple pets, accommodation is limited to cottages for 7 or more people

※ These rules are designed for one medium-sized dog or smaller per group. For other types or sizes of pets, please consult us in advance for individual consideration.

The administrator is not responsible for any trouble, accidents, thefts, etc. between users in this facility.
Be sure to carry your valuables with you.
All pets must be leased and not bother other guests around you.
Please be aware in advance that the administrator will not be involved in any of your troubles with other users.
Place your permit and parking certificate in a conspicuous place, such as right under the windshield.
Turn down the volume of the radio, music, etc. as much as possible, and be careful not to disturb people around you.
Be careful when handling fire. When you leave the campsite for a while, such as when going to bed, be sure to water the charcoal or bonfire to extinguish the fire completely.
Crows and pigeons may come to the venue, so please do not leave food outside when you go out or go to bed.
When shipping a package in advance, please be sure to inform us of the arrival date, arrival time, and quantity of the package by the day before.
Luggage cannot be picked up on our regular holidays.
The administrator is not responsible for any loss or damage of the delivered items.

How to dispose of garbage

Please separate and dispose of your garbage at the garbage collection point designated by the campsite. Bring your trash home as much as possible.
Separate combustible waste and recyclable waste (cans, glass bottles, PET bottles).
Make sure your remaining charcoal is not lit when disposing of it. Do not leave the remaining charcoal inside the campsite.
Do not bury garbage or leftover charcoal in the soil.
Do not dispose of household appliances, tires, batteries, or other non-burnable garbage in the garbage collection area.
Be sure to close the garbage bag.

 

We are not responsible for any troubles such as theft or loss of accidents (personal injury or property damage accidents) on the premises.

A comprehensive outdoor facility located in a World Heritage site. It's approximately a 10-minute drive to Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine. Please come visit 'Otonashi no Sato' in Hongu-cho, Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture.

【From KANSAI area】
HANSHIN express-way → HANSHIN express-way KAMITONDA IC → Route 42 → Route 311
It’s 70 minutes driving distance from the KAMITONDA IC.

【From TOKAI area】
NAGOYA express-way → HIGASHI-MEIHAN express-way → ISE express-way → OWASE-KITA IC → Route 42 → Route 168
It’s 150 minutes driving distance from the OWASE-KITA IC.

By train / bus / airplane

【 From Kansai area 】
Take a bus to HONGU TAISHA shrine at the bus-stop of KII-TANABE station on JR KISEI line. It’s a 120 minute bus ride from the staton.

【 From TOKAI area】
Take a bus to HONGU TAISHA shrine at the bus-stop of SHINGU station on JR KISEI line.

【 From TOKYO area by airplane】
Take a bus called the KUMANO KODO fast bus arranged by MEIKO bus company, at the bus stop of NANKAI SHIRAHAMA Airport. There is just a single service a day leaving there at 9:28 am. It’s a 140 minute bus ride from the airport.
Unless the leaving time of the bus matches on your schedule, please take a bus to HONGU TAISHA shrine, originally called either RYUJIN bus or MEIKO-bus, not at the airport, but at the KII TANABVE train station . It’s a 120 munite bus ride from the station.
